“A Martha Stewart Wedding”

Shefferman Orthodontics is very excited to announce its participation in Martha Stewart Weddings', The Bride's Guide.

Our patient, Esther Kim (who has given us permission to share her name with you), has been selected to document in Martha Stewart’s “Bridal Beauty Diaries,” her experiences with our office’s Invisalign treatment. Here, in fact, hot off the presses is a link to her first posting. Not only is she writing a monthly blog for Martha Stewart Weddings, she is a bride-to-be with a plan!

With a year to go before her wedding, Esther has already booked her venue (May 2014 at Little Seneca Creek Lodge right outside of Washington, D.C.), selected her menu (“including our own special cocktails”), booked her photographer, chosen her cake, has even already selected her wedding dress (“a beautiful wedding gown [that] is strapless”) and she has planned ahead with our office to treat her with Invisalign, invisible braces that will, in less than a year, make her smile as beautiful as it can be for her special day.

Esther knew she wanted to change her smile, and so more than a year ago, as she created her to-do list for her wedding, she cleverly added, “orthodontist/braces” to her list. Invisalign treatments can take from 6 months to a year-and-a-half, so Esther timed her call to Shefferman Orthodontics perfectly. We started her treatment in mid May.

This is what Esther has to say about her decision to “fix her smile” before her wedding, a time when, as Esther puts it, you “want to look your absolute best. I’m really looking forward to the Invisalign treatment because I have long been a little self-conscious about my smile… I have a moderate overbite and my lower teeth are quite crooked. While you can’t really tell from far away and in posed shots, I find it’s pretty noticeable in close-ups and candid shots. I expect that our photographer will be capturing a lot of candid moments and emotions, and I don’t want to be shy about being photographed, or be embarrassed of any of our photos afterwards.”

After an initial consultation with Esther, I have let her know that the timing is perfect for her May 2014 wedding. We have discussed her treatment plan, including my role in her treatment and her role so that we get the results we both want: straightened lower teeth and alignment in her bite so she can smile with confidence on her big day.

She writes: “I am very excited to be participating in this amazing opportunity with Martha Stewart Weddings and Invisalign! I was born and raised in New Jersey, but was fortunate enough to travel extensively after college… Moving to D.C. was particularly auspicious since that is where I met my fiancé, Sawyer—we actually met as complete strangers at a bar soon after we both moved to D.C. We chatted, he got my number, he texted me, and now here we are planning our wedding!”

Here’s a quick rundown on Esther’s plans for her wedding:
